Great Location and Great value. We stayed March 20 2012. We woke up one morning caught the mega bus to Chicago. This hotel was prefect because it was walking distance to The Navy Par(for us..we love walking) the Field museum and the water. Oh yes I really enjoyed the docks. We got our room off hotwire 3 star for $80. The bed was perfect I loved the lights over the bed. However the bathroom was rather small. And the tub took forever to let the water out. But what can you expect for $80. The walls are paper thin and we heard kids playing in the hallways but after I spoke with the manager they cleared that right up. Alot of great restaurants near here. We will defiantly stay again

We spent a week in Chicago this July and just loved every minute of it, well except of course the run in with the wacko on the rid line, but what are you going to do?! We stayed four nights at the Monaco (spectacular) and three nights here at the Essex Inn. This helped to save some money and provided a pool for our son. Our double room was about $100 less per night than the high end hotels and that worked out fine. The hotel is exceedingly unimpressive from the outside, particularly in the shadow of the great Chicago Hilton, but big deal. The lobby reminds me of a lobby of a northern European Hotel. Stark, but clean. The staff was busy, but helpful. For the size, the hotel seemed to be very quite and the elevators were always easy to get. The room was clean and tastefully decorated, just not impressive. Internet access is $6 a day, but very fast. The pool was nice, but the water was cold. The location is really good, with the park right across the street, the museums a short walk away and the nearest train station (red line) just two blocks away. Main bus lines are right out front. For the money, the Essex Inn is really a good value. If you want special, stay at the Monaco, but if you want to have some money for the house payment when you get home, this is the place. I would stay here again. Have fun!

If you want a clean comfortable room at a great price on Michigan Avenue look no further. The run down look of the hotel can be deceiving but the staff are courteous and helpful. They even allowed us to park and store our bags five hours before check-in time. The pool is wonderful and so is the gym. If a good room to sleep is all you need than look no further. A note of caution however, if you use the valet service ($21 a day) make sure you get everything out of your vehicle before you let them park it because there are no in-out privileges and you will be charged extra. The free computers with internet access was a great help and the Savoy Grill serves great breakfast for reasonable prices. If there is a drawback to this hotel I would have to say is a little far south from most of the downtown attractions but the trains are close by and are just a few stops north. The shuttle service is also a nice touch but make note of the schedule.

for the location of the hotel and the amenities, I believe you get much more than you pay for. The rooms look like a typical lower end hotel, but the amenities are great! the staff and sevice was great. My room/bathroom was clean! I will always come back to this hotel!

Only roughly one mile south of the great Mag. mile on Michigan ave., so there are plenty of shops, cafes and museums to visit while staying at this location. However when I was there their business station was down, there is only one restaurant inside the inn which is not that impressive either. It looks like their lobby could use the help of an interoir decorator as well. The accomadations themselves were OK, but it's about the overall package.

Great discount hotel in a great location. It's unbelievable the price I got on this hotel and it's right next to Millenium Park, the Art Institute and the Science Musuem. The hotel also has free shuttles to the musuems hourly. The rooms were clean and big by Chicago standards. The staff was very helpful and the pool and workout room were the best.

We stayed at the Essex in Sept 2002 when we came to town for the Rolling Stones concert. Wanted to be in the "heart" of the city to take in some sights the day after the show. Found the Essex for $99/night and it was perfect! No frills hotel but clean rooms, friendly staff, on-site valet parking, restaurant, fitness room and pool...all right on S. Michigan Ave. Walked to Navy Pier, Aquarium, Mag. Mile, Grant Park, Art Museum, Field Museum, and Soldier Field. Safe neighborhood and great for family stay's too! They'll get my reservation each and every time!
